The Evergreen Indiana member libraries have developed shared policies and procedures to guide the operations relating to cataloging, circulation, patron records, confidentiality, hardware and software, and staff usage. These policies adhere to Indiana State Law and are representative of service standards throughout the consortium.

Brownstown Public Library is fine free.

What this means for you:

  • If you have overdue fines from Brownstown Public Library that you accrued before we went fine free, you are no longer required to pay these fines.

  • You are still responsible for your items. We encourage you to return all items in a timely manner. Due dates still apply.

  • The library will still send you courtesy reminders to return your items.

  • You will no longer accrue a daily late fine on overdue materials.

  • Past replacement fees for lost or damaged items, replacement library cards, and collection agency fees will still apply.

  • Materials that are obtained from other Evergreen Indiana libraries, Statewide Remote Circulation Service (SRCS), or through Interlibrary Loan are still be subject to overdue charges, set by the lending library.

  • Materials that are 28 days overdue from the original due date are automatically marked “LOST” and you will be billed for the replacement cost and processing fee of $10.00 per lost item. Your account will then be referred to Unique Management Services collection agency and blocked. A nonrefundable collection fee of $14.00 will be charged to your library account.

  • Overdue materials returned before 6 months from the original due date will have fines forgiven, with the exception of the $14.00 collection fee. Materials will not be accepted back after the 6 month period.

  • New Adult Clean Slate Option - if you had fines as a minor, once you turn 18, you are now eligible for a new library card that is fine free. All previous fines for lost or damaged materials will be transfered to the responsible parent or guardian’s account.
